Yesterday, on March 1, I embarked upon an experience I’ve been curious about, but never attempted before. Whole30.
Why Whole30?
Since hearing about the program a few years ago, I’ve watched friends give it a try and wondered if Whole30 would work for me, or even if it was worth all of the hype. Eventually that wondering, as well as a desire to learn more about nutrition and gain a better understanding of which foods best fuel my body (and which ones I should eliminate or avoid). It also doesn’t hurt that I am singing in my cousin’s wedding in a month, I have an upcoming vacation and I somewhat recently started ‘putting myself’ out there again.
I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t doing Whole30 with some hope of losing a bit of weight along the process – but my main goal is to gain that understanding of how to fuel my body with foods that promote better health and support the fun and healthy activities that I already enjoy (like singing, figure skating and yoga).
In preparing for this process, what stood out to me was the Whole30 premise – “Your good health starts with the goods you eat” (p.26 of It Starts with Good – one of my guidebooks through this experience). I was aware that some of the foods I was leaning on (or leaning on too readily) in my diet weren’t providing the benefits that I could have been getting from healthier, more nourishing alternatives.
I look forward to (hopefully) finding a new perspective and sharing some of the struggles and insights I encounter along the Whole30 journey.
Thanks for reading!

PS – This is when you know that Whole30 is a good idea… When you can’t find your book about Whole30 because its obscured by a box of candy.
